Confessions of a Real Life Kundalini Yogi - How Kundalini Yoga helped me stay focused in my business; be creative strong and accountable; and complete my life goal!

What is your name?

Leigh Morrison

How long have you been a Kundalini Yogi?

About 8 years of practising, and started my level one teacher training in 2014.

Why did you first come to a Kundalini Yoga class?

I was doing a yoga and meditation course and I started trailing different forms of yoga, after practicing hatha for many years. Kundalini blew my mind, quite literally! I was entranced, intrigued and also a little bewildered from my first experience as both physically, emotionally, mentally and energetically I felt a shift, like I was floating when I left the 3 hour workshop I attended. It had me hooked.

What is the Winter Solstice, and; The Power of Sound Healing:

The Winter Solstice falls on Saturday June 21, and KMYOGA will be hosting a special WINTER SOLSTICE KUNDALINI YOGA & SOUND CELEBRATION from 6.00pm - 8.30pm  In this blog, KMYOGA Founder, Author and renowned Opera Singer, Kathryn McCusker explores the meaning of the Winter Solstice. Following this is another KMYOGA blog about the Power of Sound Healing:

Kathryn McCusker, KMYOGA Founder

The term Solstice means "sun stands still". In the southern hemisphere it occurs in the middle of the year and represents the start of Winter.

It is the time when the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky, making Winter Solstice the shortest day and the longest night of the year.

During the winter solstice the sun hugs closer to the horizon than at any other time during the year, giving way to the least amount of daylight annually. On the bright side, the day after the winter solstice marks the beginning of lengthening days leading up to the summer solstice.

This event had deep spiritual meaning in many cultures and in many cases Winter Solstice was associated with the birth of the Sun, meaning the birth of the god or goddess. It would seem that many ancient cultures had a similar spiritual meaning for Winter Solstice, suggesting humanity always cared about the rebirth of light.

This is a poignant time to stop and listen, to harmonize our energy and reassess our connection to our spirit and life’s purpose.

It is a powerful time of re-birth and transformation - to acknowledge our shadow, heal our wounds, release old thought patterns and align with our light to illuminate our highest destiny.

Winter Solstice is an opportunity to come together with your community in celebration of hope, peace and the rebirth of light.

The Gift of Seva

Seva is the act of selfless service.

By Denie Pentecost

I believe in Kundalini our purpose is to serve, uplift, and enrich others.

Over the past year I’ve learnt one of the most rewarding ways to serve is through organising our community Sadhana at KMYOGA. Although it took discipline and perseverance the rewards by far outweigh the challenges. And boy, there were many… it’s true getting up at 4am every Saturday pushes some buttons.

Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training..."the best thing you could ever do for yourself"

Adette Kundalini Yoga Teacher training Certificate-1

Adette Kagan shares her experience of Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training.

‘Kundalini Teacher Training from my experience, will deepen self awareness, knowledge of the practice, unblock whatever’s stopping you from living your dreams and allow you to make great friends with your soul!

Starting Kundalini yoga was a turning point in my life, and completing Level 1 of Teacher Training cemented the direction of my new-found journey.

When KMYOGA and ANS first offered Level 1 Teacher Training in 2013 I had been practicing Kundalini yoga for almost a year.  The flyer on the wall caught my eye and at first I was like, no, not for me! But every time I saw the flyer, I was drawn to it and it kept playing on my mind.  At that stage I didn’t feel I wanted to be a teacher, but I knew I wanted to deepen my practice, which had already taken me so far.  I also had a sneaking suspicion that this was exactly the next step I needed to take!

Karta Singh Khalsa returns for SOMA Workshop at KMYOGA Kundalini Meditation Yoga Sydney.

Sharon Jacobson shares her experiences of Karta Singh Khalsa's unique approach to teaching Kundalini Yoga.

“I did a retreat with Karta Singh Khalsa in Kangaroo Valley in May 2012.

Prior to the retreat, I had been doing Kundalini Yoga for five months and can count myself amongst a growing group of people who report being instantly hooked from their first experience. I had been practicing various forms of yoga for about 16 years before falling into the Kundalini Yoga trap, but none of them had managed to capture my imagination or sustain my interest quite like this has.

During the retreat I felt my heart cracking open. I challenged myself to stay with protracted postures and did battle with my mind in the midst of experiences that brought me into direct confrontation with the unknown – my ‘self’.

Good Vibrations: The Power of Sound Healing: Summer Solstice Sound Celebration at KMYOGA Kundalini Meditation Yoga Sydney

There is a magic and power of sound which sets it apart from all the other sensory perceptions. Sound penetrates through our physicality in the purest sense of vibration.

img01I can touch your hand and we will feel each other and connect. The boundary of skin however, in an impenetrable fortress. Sound vibration moves through our outer layers, and can actually resonate in such a way that our own molecular structure follows.

“Music [and sound] can have a powerful salutary effect on our cardio-vascular, immune, and nervous systems, not to mention our emotional and spiritual selves.”

 - Dr. Mitchell Gaynor (The Sounds of Healing)

This is the power of sound.
